WIVES, SUBMIT TO YOUR OWN HUSBANDS

Based on Ephesians 5:22-24

On this teaching, Coach Arthur Peter will share what the passages in Ephesians 5:22-24 is encouraging about and to whom does it addressed to. Also, we will find out what does it really mean by a submissive wife. Is it for the husbands or is it mainly for the Lord?

Ephesians 5:22-24 New King James Version (NKJV)

Marriage—Christ and the Church

22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

First, this verse is addressed to the wife and not to the husband. Meaning that the husband can skip this part. It is not for the husband. This is between the wife and God. The husband should not use this verse to point to his wife to submit. When a husband does that it already shows a very wrong heart. Verse 25 is for the husband … to love her

Second, notice that the reason the wives submit to their husbands is not because their husbands are perfect or without fault. No, it is done unto the Lord because it is pleasing unto the Lord.

22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church

Third, you see the reason wives submit to their husbands is because there is a spiritual law. When God created the human being in His image. God created the husband to be the leader, protector, and provider in the household. When wives decide to submit on their own accord it will give them peace, fulfillment, and joy.

So if a wife decides to submit to her husband it is not only pleasing unto God, it also benefits the wife. She will be in the place where she feels most fulfilled.

Fourth, submitting to your husband has nothing to do with not being equal. That is the most stupid reasoning I have ever heard. Each partner has a different role in the family. The husband is the provider and protector. The wife has more the caring, nurturing and supportive role.

Let me explain the function thing .. say you have a president and a janitor of a company.
Now is the president more important than the janitor? No, they are both equal as persons. Both are created in God’s image. However, they both have a different role or function. If the president stops doing his role it messes up the whole company. The same for the janitor.

You see the husband and wife have both a crucial role in the family. Each person has a different role. If they work together there will be harmony, peace, and success. However, if they constantly strife with each other and fight all the time .. no good will come forth of it.

Final point, now let me just address this in case we get some misunderstandings. I totally agree that the husband is the head and the wife needs to submit, however, when the partner is abusive (verbal or physical) get a divorce. Just because you are married doesn’t mean your partner can mistreat you.

The husband and wife are both created in God’s image, so if one of the partners is not treating the other person with respect get a divorce and find a partner that respects you and treats you with love.

Just because you are married doesn’t mean you can mistreat each other. You sometimes get this weird thinking in the church .. you are married and you are not allowed to get a divorce .. it doesn’t matter how your partner is treating you .. that logic is totally against God’s word. That is called religion .. being legalistic.

Both partners are created in God’s image and treating each other as garbage is not very Godly. So get out of the marriage, stop accepting all that garbage and find a partner that is truly Godly. That will treat you with love and respect.

Summary:
1. Addressed to the wife, not husband
2. Submitting is done unto the Lord
3. To feel fulfilled and experience joy & peace
4. Submitting doesn’t mean you are not equal
5. Don’t submit when the husband is abusive, get a divorce instead

Hope this was helpful.
